Men's health starts with naturally optimizing testosterone to keep it well above 500 ng/dL. Testosterone will fuel the energy, motivation, and willpower needed to make lasting changes in diet, sleep, and exercise. Optimal testosterone also aids fat loss and muscle gain. But testosterone doesn't work in isolation, so optimizing all androgens including DHT and DHEA is crucial. The goal is overall hormonal balance.

Yes, diet matters—not just what you eat, but also how much and when. I recommend a "balanced carnivore" diet focused on foods that are filling and nutrient-dense, prioritizing high fiber and protein. Once this foundation is set, we tailor meal timing based on your pre-meal blood sugar levels in a process called data-driven fasting. The goals are simple: to move from type 2 diabetes to pre-diabetes, you need to get your premeal glucose under 110 mg/dL. Then, to move from pre-diabetes to normal glucose control, you need to get your premeal glucose below 94 mg/dL.

Your HbA1c measures your average blood sugar over three months and is key to reversing diabetes. Most guys don’t realize it’s not just about diet—improving sleep, stress, movement, fat loss, thyroid health, chronic inflammation, and reducing alcohol can all help lower it. The goal is to use a shotgun approach to lower HbA1c: first below 7%, then below 6.4%, and ultimately as close to 5.5% as possible.

About Dr. Adam
Hi, I’m Adam—a naturopathic doctor and men’s health coach based in Montana.
There’s a quote I love: 'A healthy man wants a thousand things, but a sick man only wants one.' I know this firsthand because I used to be that sick guy. Naturopathic medicine was the key to solving my health issues.
Med school stress triggered hypothyroidism and blood sugar swings, but by focusing on my diet (with data from a CGM), fixing my sleep, and finally getting consistent with strength-training, I was able to optimize my health. Now, most days I have 16-hour energy. My thyroid is back to normal, my testosterone level is 560, and my average glucose is 93 (HbA1c 4.9).
